Meet Gina
As a young girl, Trinity House Coffee co-founder Gina wouldn’t let anything stand in the way of her education—not the daily seven mile hike over rough terrain, not the heat, not the blisters on the bottom of her aching feet. Her hunger to learn eclipsed every setback, and she excelled in school.
There’s a saying among the Kamba: “If you educate a girl, you educate an entire village.” When Gina’s school funds dried up, the elders in her village—all coffee growers—stepped in. They pooled their resources and put her through secondary school, then college. Their generosity paved the way for Gina’s success, and with the founding of Trinity House Coffee, Gina is giving back.
Gina estimates that just 2 in 5 girls from her village were enrolled in secondary school when she was growing up. In some regions of Kenya, that number can drop to 1 in 15 girls. Trinity House Coffee sponsors the educations of girls in Kenya, including girls from some of the same families who helped Gina pursue her dreams.
